Manual and cnc machining, a lot of miniature machining, some minor fabrication work and a lot of shopmade tools.
Working as a machinist in a prototyping shop I run a cnc router and do CAM work for a living. In my homeshop I can work as slow and inefficient as I want and give some honour back to the old manual machines like the shaper and the pantograph milling machine.

Dbit grinder modifications - Part 2.5
I have an old Huron milling machine converted to cnc with Heidenhain control. It has 50 taper spindle (or head) I would like to know how much torque do I put on the draw bolt to tighten the tooling properly. Anybody know?
Nice work brother!!
Thanx for vid
37:50 is GREAT content Stefan! For me, a beginner, this is incredibly valuable. This video is GOLD. 43:00 great to hear you did some Warhammer :D
Hi Stefan, never underestimate giving your viewers the opportunity to peek inside of contraptions they would probably never have the opportunity to look at. Even the cleaning of gunk has that archeological expectation of what will be found under, quality wise. At one moment I was designing a motorized rotary table (never built it at the end) and for sure this content would have had improved my design. Thanks for the interesting video.
Stefannn!!!! Brilliant !
Very informative, I enjoyed your presentation.
The humour and sarcasm in this video is brilliant. That setup for shaping was excellent Dr Frankenstein 😉
Such good project, still watching this today.
When measuring a "flat taper" you can use a ball (or half a ball) to get a better measurement
The chains and purple straps on the wall in the final shot would hint toward a particular brand of evening playtime if I i weren't familiar with polyester webbing lifting straps and general rigging practices. It still took me a couple beats to make sense of it with just a little bit in view. 😂 Great tips as always! Thank you!
Great video Thanks Stefan
Stefan where you been buddy, I guess you been staying busy , or I hope you’re staying busy. That’s a pretty big rotary table, I was needing one today but found a different way to go about it getting the job done,
Very nice work sir
Have you tried Ethyl alcohol? I would far rather breathe and touch ethyl alcohol than Isopropyl. Isopropyl is toxic, hence it's use an an antiseptic. It kills any cell it infuses. Small amounts will kill you if ingested, but you freely breathe it into your lungs??
Ha, 3 days and they are back! in New Zealand they wouldnt have even got to the EDM shop let alone be finished. Love your work, even your packaging is precision!
wow that was my first Stefan project, I was captivated for 40 minutes, even at normal playback speed. great work, thanks for sharing
Great to have a good engineer to listen to during lonesome Christmasses
Get yourself a air compressor and just blow some air
Eccentric work is always fascinating to me. But this is next level.
Stefan, I'll wager a beer that the rotary table finds a use as an extension to the work area, particularly for the work that you describe as 'larger'. I say that, because I've seen the effort that's required to hold the work on the vertical surface of the mill ... 🙂
Horizontal With the world
This beast would be an absolute godsend if you had a job where you really needed it, but the size and weight would mean doing everything to avoid it for most small jobs unless you had it on a dedicated machine.
I read that the rubber under the machine feet will give a little over time, causing possible issues. Is this something you found to be true? I was thinking to simply put my lathe on 30mm thick Azobe wooden blocks (used for railroads) do you think this would cause issues with precision/alignment/...?
Just got myself a 200mm rotary table for my Provmajska ALG-100. Put it to good use to make a connecting rod, my first. Now waiting for the div8ng disks and I will have an alternative to the universal dividing head, which is even heavier. Always appreciate your work Stefan.
If you had a job requiring lots of tool changes and multiple parts, you could set up multiple work stations and just rotate through 3 or 4 parts for each tool. By the way, I can't seem to find the videos about those fancy EDM vises you had purchased..
For tolerances greater than +/- 0.001 inch, locating ball on sharp cornered hole may be ok. Below +/- 001 you need to measure the center of the ball relative to the end of the part. Once that is established you can hold hole tolerance to gage level accuracy, +/- 0.0001inch
@14:49. Dude!? Your English is off the scale superb!...I understood what you intended to communicate immediately!...another masterpiece video my friend😊
i love the safety crocs !
we have a vertical shaper that has a rotary table built in , we mounted a 4jaw to that so its great for setting up work that require multiple keyways or splines
damn your mill is quiet
nice find ...I guess I too am a practical colector of tools that I can use on my shop...you will use it i'm sure!!!!!
Enjoyed Stefan! Very nice piece. I'm sure this will turn up in a video somday. ATB, Robin
The newer DRO with LCD screens allow users to enter any arbitrary number into X, Y or Z counters. You only need to touch the edge, enter the diameter of the edge finder or thickness of the paper into appropriate axis and you are done. No need to move the table to reset the counter to zero. So if you are looking to buy a DRO display, get one with LCD display.
Use a palm sander running scotch bright pads with a light petrol. Go light. Leaves beautiful results.
Geil, will auch 🎉😢
Listen....
Looks like it was lubricated with Marmite!
Speaking of "sent me", That sure would look sweet on my mill! That is if you would like to give a good home,,,,,,,,,,,,?
Awesome. Congrats on the new tool. I especially loved the "then you can just get rid of the reminder with an air gun and a towel so you don't spray the solvent all over the shop" - then you disregard your own tip and the towel - and spray the solvent all over the shop... lol...
I learned a new word today... "sticktion"
Very nice Stefan😎👍 if you ever purchase sthg big again and want to clean it, drop by my shop and use my Würth Parts Cleaner, VOC free, that stuff gets the grime off in no time. I am not sure of your location, but you sound like a Oberpfälzer 😉 i am located 15min next to munich airport with the shop 😊 Greetings, Chris
Woah! I think we could all do with a few friends like yours. ;) I've struggled to find a rotary table small enough for my tiny Unimat... which makes it kinda fun to have a good look at this monster. :)
Do You regrind/modify Your full profile threading inserts? The thought never occurred to me despite regrinding other less expensive inserts on the D-b it grinder...
Thank you for that tour. Now should I see another I will be wiser.
Great for watchmaking.
Big cockroach at 14:23!
Seriously. Thats a fly. On the lift table, 1m50 above ground level in bright light.
@@StefanGotteswinter oh crap you're right!
Nice fixture - it has basically never been used. The hardened grease and thick oil is typical of an item sat forever. Great find - if a little big.
I love the Crocs Bro 👍
Great Vlog. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing your tools & also your opinions with us. ATB regards from the UK
